ATHLETICS — National 400-Metre Success For Glenpark Harrier Scott

INVERCLYDE Sports Personality junior nominee Scott Hannaway confirmed his status as the area’s top 400-metre specialist with a new area record and bronze medal from the National Age Group Indoor Championships held at the Emirates Indoor Arena.

Glenpark Harrier Scott, the under-20 area record-holder, took a step closer to the 53-year-old ‘Harriers’ record with an impressive 49.32 seconds.

After a modest heat win, Scott renewed his focus and got up to speed early in the final. A mature first 150 metres saw him among the leaders approaching the breaking point where athletes merge going into lap two.

Scott was in second position into the second lap and was challenging the leader after a very aggressive back straight as both accelerated around the final bend.

With the finish line approaching fast, three athletes were contesting the top places. A photo finish was required for a definitive decision, awarding Scott bronze in a new lifetime best.
