Inverclyde Now Logo CORONAVIRUS — Cruise From Greenock Cancelled

6 August, 2020 | Clyde Shipping, Local

A CRUISE ship that had been due at Greenock next month will now not be coming to the Clyde because of a coronavirus outbreak.

Expedition vessel MS Roald Amundsen had been scheduled to finish a cruise at the Ocean Terminal on 12 September and start another one on the same day.

But operator Hurtigruten has suspended its sailings after 36 crew members tested positive for Covid-19.

Chief executive Daniel Skjeldam said: “In light of the recent increase in new cases of Covid-19 globally, the only responsible choice is to suspend all expedition sailings until we are absolutely confident, we can carry out our operations in line with all requirements from the authorities and with the even stricter requirements we have set for ourselves.”

Inverclyde MSP Stuart McMillan said: “I welcome this decision. It is sad that it’s happened but ensuring the safety of the crew (now) and my constituents (next month) was the correct decision.”

The Ocean Terminal has not hosted any cruise ships this summer because of the pandemic.
