GREENOCK Cricket Club hosted a Kwik Cricket Festival for under-10s on Sunday.

Although there was early morning rain, the skies cleared and the sun shone.

Much positive comment was made on the level of ability on display with particular reference to some outstanding performances from Greenock and Clydesdale players.

It was pleasing to see young Greenock players following the pathway to the extended age group team cricket that the club offers. This pathway has resulted in local boys and girls achieving District and International representation.

A club spokesman said: “This age group is our life blood of the future and to keep children involved in cricket there has to a defined route through age group teams through to senior cricket.

“As a club we are pleased we offer teams at under-10, under-11, under-14 and under-16 age groups.”

An introduction to cricket is offered every Wednesday evening at Greenock Cricket Club, Brisbane Street, from 6 till 7.30pm, under the tutelage of former Scottish internationalist Tom Black.

Children learn to play cricket in a structured fun environment; all newcomers are welcomed.
