THE summer season is hotting up for Riverside Youth Band, as it prepares to take to the stage in Scotland and England over the coming weeks.
The Inverclyde organisation’s award-winning Youth and Training bands will perform at Riverside’s summer concert in Port Glasgow Community Campus this Friday (20 June), with a programme of music to keep all the family entertained.
Also entertaining audience members will be the much-anticipated Riverside Rookies, featuring the band’s stars of the future.
Tickets should be booked in advance and cost £10 (under-12s go free). There will be a raffle, including an opportunity to win a Celtic shirt signed by the 2024/25 league-winning squad, as well as teas and coffees.
In July, Riverside, the reigning Scottish youth champions, is travelling to Lytham St Annes to participate in the popular Brass at the Seaside Festival, the first Scottish band to do so. The festival will see the Youth and Training bands entertaining audiences with a string of bandstand performances.
The trip will culminate in an evening concert, during which Riverside will perform alongside some of the finest youth and adult bands from across the north of England.

Mark Good, musical director of Riverside Youth Band, said: “The final few weeks of the school term are shaping up to be an action-packed period for Riverside Youth Band.
“We can’t wait to perform to audiences in Inverclyde as we return to Port Glasgow Community Campus for our annual summer concert, and it promises to be a great evening.”
Mark continued: “Our Youth and Training bands are bound for the north of England this summer, to take part in the Brass at the Seaside festival. It’ll be a wonderful experience as they perform to new audiences, socialise together and meet like-minded young musicians from other parts of the country.
“Taking our young people away for three nights is not without its financial hurdles, and we’re keen to ensure the experience is accessible for all our young players. We would be extremely grateful for any support to help us along the way.”

Band members have thrown themselves into fundraising activities, and recently enjoyed a hike as they scaled Conic Hill together, even managing a performance at the top.
