TV News Spot For Inverclyde’s Christmas Crochet Creations As More Lovable Pillar Box ‘Hats’ Appear

16 December, 2020 | Local

THE woolly wonders appearing on Inverclyde’s pillar boxes are going to the next level, with the provost set to appear on TV news being interviewed about them.

The crocheted winter scenes have attracted a massive public following, with residents eagerly awaiting news of more arrivals on local post boxes.

Inverclyde Provost Martin Brennan was spotted being filmed by STV News today beside the penguin-adorned post box at Shore Street, Port Glasgow. The interview is expected to appear on the 6pm bulletin.

Inverclyde Now’s crochet correspondent is struggling to keep up with the ever-increasing numbers of pillar box ‘hats’ — there are at least nine but the situation is changing all the time.

One with an NHS theme has a high-profile spot in Cathcart Square, Greenock, above, and Wemyss Bay, below, has joined the list of settlements enjoying the festive crafted decorations.

Four of them are in the West End of Greenock — the newest one being at Ardgowan Square, below, (Robertson Street at Union Street), and the others at Johnston Street, Finnart Street/Forsyth Street; South Street at Campbell Street;

Others are at Inverkip and Gourock.

Those behind the feel-good phenomenon are still keeping a low profile.
