THERE were 10 covid-related deaths registered in Inverclyde during the latest week for which official figures are available.
The tragic toll relates to the week beginning 4 January, according to the National Records of Scotland, and is the highest the area has endured for many months.
Most recent weeks have seen one or two deaths with one seven-day period where there were three.
The figures involve deaths for which covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.
There were a total of 34 deaths from all causes registered in Inverclyde during the week beginning 4 January.
Inverclyde has had the highest positive case rate in Scotland for the past fortnight, with hundreds of people locally confirmed as having covid.
