A WOMAN allegedly stole cash from someone at a Greenock bank machine and then coughed into a police officer’s face, claiming she had coronavrius.

Police responded to a report of theft from a 28-year-old man withdrawing money at the auto-teller on Newton Street in Greenock around 7pm on Thursday.

The suspect was apprehended by the victim and members of the public assisted in restraining her until police attended.

On being arrested the suspect claimed to be suffering from Covid-19 and allegedly intentionally coughed directly into the face of an officer.

The 35-year-old female was charged with theft and culpable and reckless conduct and held in custody to appear at court.
