A 16-YEAR-old girl allegedly assaulted two police officers in Gourock.

The officers came across the teenager in possession of alcohol on George Road around 6.30pm on Saturday.

Sergeant Jason Logsdon said: “When challenged the female allegedly became aggressive and was subsequently arrested for her conduct.

“Whilst being arrested she has allegedly assaulted one of the officers by pulling their glasses off and scratching the officer’s forearm and wrist causing bruising.

“The other officer sustained a cut to his hand.”

The girl has been reported to prosecutors.

Area commander Chief Inspector Paul Cameron said: “The increase we have experienced in Inverclyde of emergency workers being assaulted simply can’t be tolerated.

“Police Officers are in our communities to protect us — being assaulted is simply not part of the job.”
