Inverclyde Now Logo SWIMMING — Success For Port Otters At Jubilee Gala

PORT Glasgow Otters Swim Team took part in the annual Jubilee Swimming Gala at Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

Twenty-one members of the team each competed in two races against swimmers from the 14 other clubs which were represented in the competition.

Each swimmer competed well, enjoyed a successful day and the club returned home with 19 medals -– seven gold, five silver and seven bronze.

Alex Horne, Lottie Barry, Eve Cushnaghan, Jordyn Fitzharris, Colin McLean, Adam Parker, John Brotherton and Katy Boyle just missed out on medals but had very successful swims, some achieving personal best times in their races.

Niamh McTaggart won a gold medal and Zak Gallacher won a silver medal in the 25m beginners’ event.

Emilio Bastida was triumphant in this, his first competition, by winning gold in the 25m backstroke (class 9) and silver in the 25m freestyle (class 10).

Tommy McNair won bronze in the 25m backstroke (class 9). Lindi Steele won gold in the 25m backstroke (class 8) and bronze in the 25m freestyle (class 7).

Emma Thompson won silver in the 25m backstroke (class 8). Mollie Rowles won two bronze in the 25m backstroke (class 6) and 25m freestyle (class 5).

Kyle Brotherton won gold in the 50m freestyle (class 4) and bronze in the 50m backstroke (class 4). Chris Dillon won gold in the 50m freestyle (class 3).

Aimee Hagan won gold in the 50m freestyle (class 1) and silver in the 50m backstroke (class 2). Ross O’Donnell won silver in the 50m freestyle (class 1).

Isaac Dunning won gold in the 100m freestyle (open) and bronze in the 100m backstroke (open).

Richard Browning won bronze in the 400m freestyle (open).

Two freestyle 4 x 50m relay races and one freestyle 4 x 25m relay race were run at the end of the day with the Otters achieving 3rd, 4th and 5th place.

The club congratulates all the swimmers for competing in another exciting and successful competition.
