SWIMMING: Success For Port Glasgow Otters

26 November, 2025 | Local

TWO swimmers from Port Glasgow Otters qualified to represent the Disability Sport Glasgow Team in national competitions.

Max McCorkindale and Zak Gallacher participated in the West of Scotland Schools Swimming Trials and were chosen for the team competing in the SDS National Junior Swimming Championships for athletes with a physical/learning disability.

Unfortunately, the championships for athletes with a physical disability was postponed. Max will compete when a new date has been secured.

Zak travelled to the Olympia Leisure Centre in Dundee to compete in the championships for athletes with a learning disability.

It was a challenging competition with 10 regions competing in 26 events, consisting of 65 races/heats.

Zak’s swimming was outstanding. He won three medals and secured personal best times in all his five races.

50m Backstroke (Class 2): Gold

50m Breaststroke (Class 3): Gold

50m Freestyle (Class 1): Gold

This competition uses a time-banded system and medals are awarded per class relevant to the competing number of swimmers.
