SUMMER Holiday Hubs Being Provided For Children And Young People

28 May, 2021 | Noticeboard

ACTIVITY hubs for five to 18-year-olds are being run this summer to support working families on low incomes.

They will take place at Port Glasgow Community Campus and Clydeview Academy, Gourock from Monday 28 June until Friday 13 August.

Places will be prioritised for children who are entitled to free school meals and clothing grants.

Sessions are free to attend and designed to support parents and carers to continue working during the holidays.

The programme will include sports and physical activities, cooking and baking, creative arts and crafts, and outdoor play and adventures.

Sessions will run from 8.45am to 4.15pm. Lunch will be provided free.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and communities, said: “The school holidays can be really challenging for many families, especially those on low incomes, and we want to ensure that they don’t get in the way of parents and carers working and earning.

“The hubs are part of the council’s efforts to tackle inequality and support residents with employment opportunities, as well as improving life chances of our children and young people.

“This will be a lifeline service for many working families and I encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity.”

The hubs are being delivered by Inverclyde Council with support from the Scottish Government and national organisation Children in Scotland.

Applications are now being accepted and must be submitted before Monday 14 June.
