TENNIS -- Fort Matilda Players Enjoy Handicap Doubles Tournament

FORT Matilda Tennis Club in Greenock held its Jimmy Mitchell handicap doubles tournament on Saturday afternoon, with more than 20 members turning up to play and watch.

The first rounds were timed and this meant all the players worked hard to accumulate as many games as they could to make it through to the semi-finals.

In Group One, Calum and Dany won all their matches but failed to win enough games to get through.

The final was a closely-fought match with Marlene and Kevin taking the lead at 4-2 against Adrienne and Adam, but the latter pairing proved too strong and finally took the set to 6-5.

A wonderful afternoon tea of sandwiches and cakes was enjoyed by all and even the weather was perfect for playing.

Lesley had organised great prizes and all winners were delighted to take home the coveted keyrings.

The Jimmy Mitchell handicap doubles is a relaxed tournament which can be enjoyed by all members of the club and organisers were pleased to see first team players partnering up with not so experienced players giving everyone a chance of winning.

The club is grateful to Susan Soutar who organised the draw, handicaps and the scores, with help from Ross Patrick.
