HOCKEY -- Winning Form Continues For Greenock Morton Teams

GREENOCK Morton Hockey Club's Ladies' XI and Men’s 2nd XI were in action at the weekend with both teams keen to keep their winning starts to the season going.

The ladies were at home and were determined to make home advantage count against a young Western side. Greenock’s mix of youth and experience has proved invaluable so far this season and it continued to be so on Saturday. Katie Purves, pictured, in particular has been in great goal-scoring form. The ladies ran out 4-1 winners with the goals coming from Katie Purves (2), Lisa MacDonald and Eve Connor. The goals move Katie to the top of the club scoring charts with Jonny Roy and Andrew Riddell from the men in close pursuit. Overall it was an excellent team performance and the ladies hope they can maintain this form.

The Men’s 2nd XI travelled to Clydesdale. Both defences played very well and limited the number of chances on offer. It took two clinical finishes from Greenock to see them to a 2-0 victory. Firstly Bruce Glenny scored from a set play and then Ross Peterson got the second after a fine individual run. Riddell came close to adding to the goal tally on a couple of occasions but was denied by the post and another effort flew just wide. Overall this was another good performance from the team to carry on their good start to the season.
