HOCKEY -- Greenock Morton Ladies Stay Unbeaten

GREENOCK Morton Ladies marched on to claim another victory in the league and keep their run of good form going.

The ladies travelled to Newton Mearns to face Giffnock in what had the potential to be a tricky game. From the outset though, the ladies played some good hockey and used the blend of youth and experience that has served them so well this season.

The end result was a comfortable-looking 3-0 win, the goals coming from Lisa MacDonald, Robyn McClure, pictured, and goal machine Katie Purves.

The Men didn’t fair so well in a home match against Aberdeen Grammar. It was the visitors who made the long journey back home with three points under their belts and left the home side still searching for their first victory.

Despite a few notable absentees, Greenock played some good hockey at times. At half-time the score was 1-0 to the visitors courtesy of a lucky break of the ball at a short corner.

The home side then created and spurned a few good chances to get back into the game before keeper Jones was left furious with his team after two players were left unmarked in the middle of the goal and the score went to 2-0.

Another short corner before the end had the score at 3-0. The home side kept fighting all the way and didn’t give up, in particular Ross Peterson covered a lot of ground and was always keen to attack.
