FUN In The Sun At Greenock Parkrun

BRIGHT sunny conditions greeted the 83 people who turned up to walk and run Greenock parkrun on the Esplanade on Saturday morning, including 12 people taking part in Greenock for the first time.

One of the first timers, Lynne Powell, who mostly runs in Cambridge, celebrated her visit by being the first female over the finishing line, with Angela Campbell -- on her 249th parkrun -- and Lynne Harrison following home less than a minute behind, with Lynne taking 50 seconds off her previous best time in the process.

First male to finish, for the first time, was Chris Barlas who came home in a time just a few seconds outside his best ever, while Alan Callan was second over the line with his best time since April, showing signs of getting back to his best, with John O’Donnell not far behind.

There were nine personal best (PB) times in total, including a first in six months for Lucas Bezian, and for Janet McCauley who broke through the 30-minute barrier for the first time. Janet has come through the local Couch to 5k programme and has taken just three parkruns to get under 40 minutes. Meanwhile Graeme Hanna’s PB of 31:01 was his sixth in a row, reducing his best time by more than three minutes in just two months.

James McFadden completed his 50th parkrun, with all but two coming at Greenock.
