FOOTBALL -- Update From Port Glasgow Juniors Girls' Section

Under-Nines -- The Under-Nines had two teams at Lady Octavia. Lining up in one of the teams were new players Neaveh, Sienna and Abigail plus the experienced Taylor. There were no subs available so the girls played every minute of every game.

The girls did well against Morton with Taylor protecting the defence. The new girls where a little nervy at first but quickly settled. Scorers: Taylor, Neaveh. The girls then did well to win against a good Glennifer side. Scorer: Taylor. There was some good passing and defending against Dumbarton. Scorer: Taylor. The fourth game was against St Mirren, with goals from Abigail, Neaveh (3) and Taylor. The last game saw the girls get their only draw, with Taylor scoring.

The other Under-Nines team had Heilidh, Leah and Kate, and newcomers Autumn and Shannon who put in a great effort. Against Glennifer, the girls started well, with Leah getting a hat-trick. The girls did well in spells against St. Mirren and Dumbarton and were unfortunate not to score. Leah got another hattrick against Morton and Autumn got her first goal for the Juniors. Finally, against Gleniffer, there was another goal from Leah.

All the girls did really well and put in maximum effort, pulling together as a team and sticking up for each other. Girls and coaches wish Erin O'Brien a speedy recovery after she broke her arm.

Under-11s -- The Under-11s where back in action at Lady Octavia.Unfortunately Neaveh sustained an injury prior to kick-off and couldn't manage to play. This was Ellie's first game and she did very well, with some nice passing and good touches. The first game was against Dumbarton, the girls conceding an early goal but quickly getting back into it to turn the score around and win. Goals were scored by Julie and Roma. Against St Mirren, the girls' passing was on point with two fine goals coming from Julie and Casey Leigh.

The girls continued their form against Glennifer, the most entertaining of the games, with Juniors finishing worthy winners. Scorers were Casey Leigh, Taylor and Beth plus an own goal. The last game of the day was against Dumbarton Team Two; the girls managed a narrow win.

Ellie linked up well with Mhairi in defence and the midfield of Roma, Julie and Beth also worked hard.  Coaches thank Taylor Coulter for playing for both Under-Nines and 11s.  The team thank Belhaven Dentist for sponsorship.

Under-13s -- The girls were at home against Drumchapel at Parklea. They started well with Zara making good runs down the right. A great through-ball from Elle Dinning saw Zara run on to it to score. It was all Port in the first half, Elle D holding the ball and linking really well with the midfield. A turn and shot from Erin came off the post and a shot from Zara went over the bar. Elle D also shot wide then over and Victoria hit the woodwork from Emma's corner.

In the second half, Drum started to come back into it but Victoria and Emma coped well, with Tess taking anything that came her way. Port took a grip again and a throw into the box was palmed in by the Drum keeper. Chances for Erin, Ellie and Eva and a shot off the post should have made the game more comfortable. Every girl played their part in the win. Final score: Port 2 Drumchapel 0. Scorers: Zara, own goal. Player of the match: Eva
