BOWLS -- Wellington Park Hold Prize-Giving

MEMBERS of Wellington Park Bowling Club, Greenock held their annual prize-giving, concluding another successful bowling season. 

Club president Alex McIlravey, with partner Kirsteen Keenan, got the night's events underway, firstly thanking family, friends and special guests. Standing down as president, Alex spoke about his term saying: "It was an honour to be asked, to accept and to serve this club as president. Wellington Park Bowling Club has a very proud history, one of the best, and it continues to produce the goods on the green." He also thanked Kirsteen for her support throughout his term. 

Lastly, he spoke about the achievements in 2017, from the Scottish Top10 journey to winning the Greenock and District Fours League Championship Title. He experienced one of his proudest days in bowling -- being presented with the league flag and shield at finals day.

Renfrewshire Bowling Association vice-president Jim McElwee spoke on behalf of the associations, about the club's history and how it was a privilege to follow Wellington Park in the Scottish Inter-County Top10 Championships and watch some of the country's top bowlers perform. Campbeltown Bowling Club President Donnie McCrimmon followed by speaking on behalf of the member clubs. He congratulated Alex and Wellington Park on a successful season and wished the club all the best in 2018.

2017 Greenock and District Fours League Champions 

All members where then presented with their G&D Fours League winning medal. 

Afterwards, a special presentation was then made by club member Mark MacSwan who ran the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run. This was in aid of one of the club members' grand-daughters, Jessica Glover. Before handing the cheque over to Jessica’s aunt Michelle and mum Karen, Mark thanked everyone who contributed to raising £1,005 for this special little girl. He was really overwhelmed by all the support and appreciated everyone’s messages before and after his half-marathon. 

Finally, President Alex thanked McGill’s, John McGhee, Derek Logue Groundcare, Willie Rodgers, SCS Group, Rodger Beckett from Crawfurdsburn Community Centre and everyone who helped make the night a success.
