SPEEDING Drivers To Be Targeted By Camera Units

SPEED camera vans are to be used on two Inverclyde routes in a bid to get drivers to slow down.

Police Scotland’s Safety Cameras section states that a short-term deployment is to start on Cloch Road, Gourock, and Eldon Street, Greenock, following concerns raised by members of the community regarding excessive speed.

Nadine Gunn from the West Safety Camera Unit: “The sites were identified through discussions with the local authority having received reports from residents highlighting road safety concerns. In response Police Scotland Safety Cameras will deploy the mobile safety camera units over the coming weeks.

“The deployment is intended to both deter speeding and identify drivers who fail to comply with the legal speed limit. Speeding significantly increases the risk of serious injury and fatal collisions, particularly in residential areas where pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users are present.

“The deployment of the safety camera units is about encouraging compliance with the speed limits and keeping everyone safe. We would ask all motorists to drive responsibly and within the legal limits at all times.”
