SPECSAVERS Sponsored Walk Boosts Hearing Dogs Charity

STAFF at Specsavers in Greenock have raised more than £1,000 for the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Nine members of staff from the Oak Mall store along with several family members, hearing dog Ginger and her owner Neil, took part in a 10-kilometre sponsored walk at Greenock Cut.

The money raised will help the charity provide crucial training for hearing dogs, which support deaf people by alerting them to important noises and danger signals such as smoke alarms as well as providing them with companionship.

Claire Kincaid, store director at Specsavers in Greenock, said: “Playing an important role in supporting those who need it in our community has always been one of our core values at Specsavers in Greenock.

“So, to be able to help Hearing Dogs train dogs such as Ginger to be able to provide additional care for those who need it is something that everyone in store was keen to get involved in.

“I’m hugely proud of the team for going the extra mile to raise such an incredible amount of money for a very worthy cause. I’d like to thank everyone who kindly donated towards our efforts.”

Christopher Lyall, audiology director at Specsavers Greenock, added: “As our charity partner for this year, we’re hoping that all of the money can really help Hearing Dogs for Deaf People make a difference.

“Coping with hearing difficulties and deafness isn’t something that people should have to go through alone, so we’re glad we can play any part we can to help them with their vital work.’

Gaynor Cavanagh, community fundraising manager at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Specsavers Greenock for their amazing fundraising.

“Their support means we can change the lives of more deaf people and ensure that no-one with hearing loss feels alone.”

Specsavers in Greenock is a dedicated hearing hub which can provide customers with advice and support regarding issues with their hearing, five days per week, from the store’s audiology booth.  The store’s audiology experts also provide hearing services for neighbouring Specsavers stores in the area.
