
GREENOCK District Scout leaders were honoured to attend the priestly ordination of fellow Scouter Father Paul Laverty.
The service was carried out by Bishop John Keenan of Paisley Diocese at St Andrew’s Church, Larkfield.
Father Paul has been a member of the Scouts since he joined the 33rd Greenock and District Scout Group as a Cub.
Progressing through the sections he received his Queen’s Scout Award and The Chief Scout Commendation.
He was assistant Scout Leader from 2006 to 2015 and progressed to assistant group Scout leader in 2015 and 2016 then took on group Scout leader from 2016 to 2018.

He also held many positions within the District and Region including Everton Camp skipper from 2013 to 2018, regional archery assessor and regional power boat assessor as well as being part of the Greenock and District Gang Show Team.
He studied in the Scotus College in Rome and met the late Pope Francis during his time there.
In 2024 he returned to Scotland and was ordained a deacon, serving the parish of St Charles Borromeo in Paisley where he is currently based.
Bishop Keenan appointed Father Paul as chaplain to the Scouts and Guides Association in West Region.
