A GOUROCK community hall could be given a new lease of life under plans by a local Scout group.

The 1st Gourock Scouts are looking at alternative accommodation after outgrowing their current premises.

They are exploring a move to Upper Gourock Community Centre in Kirn Drive and are consulting residents, businesses and other organisations over the plan.

The group stated: “We would welcome the thoughts of those who live in the community and those who have made use of the centre previously.

“We would plan to run our four youth sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers) over two evenings which would create many opportunities for a variety of other community groups, day and evening.

“We would love to bring new life to the facility to benefit the community and create a space accessible to all.”

It’s hoped the venue could attract various uses including sport leisure/keep-fit classes; a community garden; toddler groups, coffee and chat/drop-in lunch sessions; practical workshops/training; craft Classes; and functions such as parties.

People from outside Scouting would be part of managing the operation and running of the premises.

The group’s statement continued: “We are at an early stage of our planning and are now consulting with the community to gauge support for the project as well as asking for ideas on what they would like to see happen.”
