RUGBY: Convincing Opening Victory For Birkmyre

5 September, 2023 | Sport

BIRKMYRE RFC won their first league match of the season 45-10 away to league newcomers, Mid Argyll, in Oban on Saturday.

The team from Kilmacolm ran in seven tries and only conceded two.

Birkmyre took an early lead on the ninth minute with a score from second row Jamie Muir.

Tries from Tom McGeogh, David Cruickshank, Ross McDonnell, Craig Williams and Robbie Espie quickly followed.

Cruickshank added four conversions making it 38-0 at the half.

Birkmyre played free-flowing attacking rugby throughout the half which the home side simply couldn’t match, effectively killing the game off.

Mid Argyll rallied shortly after the half with a score but this was cancelled out by a Finlay Davidson converted try on the 55th minute.

The game stagnated a little after this but the home side managed a consolation score just before the final whistle.

Birkmyre have a home match this Saturday against Hyndland. Kick off is 2:45pm at Birkmyre Park.
