There will be representatives from Inverclyde Council, local MP and MSPs as well as representatives of the Lord Lieutenant, the Armed Forces and local organisations at the various Remembrance Day services.

Provost Drew McKenzie, who will lead the service in Greenock, said: “The people of Inverclyde always take the time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and I’m sure this year will be no different.

“Remembrance Sunday is when we come together across all faiths, cultures and backgrounds to honour and be grateful for the service and sacrifice of those in the armed forces community.

“It is important that we all take the time to remember those who gave their lives during the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

“Many more suffered serious and life-changing injuries during various conflicts and we also remember their sacrifice.

“Please do attend where you can and take the time to honour the two-minute silence on Armistice Day.”

Leader of the council, Councillor Stephen McCabe, will attend the service in Port Glasgow while the depute leader, Councillor Natasha McGuire, will represent the council in Gourock.

Following the service in Greenock, Lyle Hill will be the focus with a service about 1.30pm to commemorate the personnel of the Free French Navy who were stationed in Greenock during the Second World War.

The Free French memorial on Lyle Hill and the Shipbuilders of Port Glasgow sculpture will be lit red on Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November. Inverclyde will also mark the national two minutes’ silence on Armistice Day at 11am.
