INVERCLYDE Association for Mental Health / In-work Enterprises Ltd has a vacancy for an operations manager.

Overview

Inverclyde Association for Mental Health (IAMH) is an independent charity registered in Scotland. Since it was established in 1970, the charity has grown and developed into one of the main providers of community based support services within Inverclyde.

The work of the organisation is focussed on promoting the mental health and wellbeing of people and their communities and providing opportunities for people with enduring mental health issues to live as independently as possible either in a residential setting or within their own home.

As part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting people with their progression and recovery, IAMH has been operating In-work Enterprises Ltd, a social enterprise delivering therapeutic and work experience opportunities from its base at the Broomhill Gardens and Community Hub in Greenock.

The Role

We are looking to recruit a new Operations Manager who will provide inspirational vision and leadership through the next stage of growth and impact. Working closely with the Trustee Board, you will:

● Be responsible for the strategic and operational management of IAMH.

● Provide strategic direction and build organisational capability.

● Build and maintain effective strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders.

● Develop income generation strategies.

● Plan and direct the organisation’s activities to meet financial targets and standards for financial and trading performance.

● Source external funding opportunities within the public, private and charitable sectors.

● Have the ability to demonstrate high levels of personal credibility and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

We are seeking an ambitious and driven individual with a successful leadership track record within a complex, growing organisation and with a record of achievement in developing and delivering organisational strategy.

To be successful in this role you must have excellent knowledge of current legislation / regulation relevant to services provided by the organisation. 

You must also have strong commercial awareness along with a proven track record of finance management and people management.

Salary circa £45K, depending on experience

Job Description

Job Title: Operations Manager | Location: Inverclyde | Responsible to: Board of Directors

As Operations Manager, you will assume responsibility for the effective management, strategic leadership, business development and co-ordination of all operational activities of Inverclyde Association for Mental Health (IAMH) in accordance with the ethos and objectives of the organisation to safeguard and grow the capability of the services.

Principle Duties and Main areas of Responsibility

You will assume responsibility for the following:

  1. Overall responsibility for creating, planning, communicating the overall strategic direction, organisation and its vision, mission, and values. This includes responsibility for all components and departments of the business.
  2. Plan and direct the organisation’s activities to achieve stated / agreed targets and standards for financial and trading performance and operational needs to stay profitable, as well as quality, culture and legislative adherence.
  3. Responsible for ensuring that the organisation’s leadership maintains a constant awareness of both the external and internal landscape, opportunities for expansion, customer base, markets, new industry developments and standards.
  4. Recruit, select, develop and mentor team members.
  5. Lead the management team effectively.
  6. Generate income growth for In-work’s Landscaping, Nursery and Ground Maintenance Services, and the Broomhill Community Hub.
  7. Ensure a long-term strategy, business plan and budgets are in place to guide IAMH and In-work Enterprises Ltd in the successful achievement of its aims and objectives.
  8. Ensure the financial viability, social value and efficiency of the organisation to ensure success and long-term sustainability and growth.
  9. Ensure our existing enterprises are maximising use of Government-funded training opportunities.
  10. Seek advice and guidance, when appropriate, from the Board of Directors.
  11. Ensure that organisational policies are up-to-date, relevant and in conjunction with the Board of Directors, to ensure that IAMH complies with all relevant legislation, regulations and quality controls.
  12. Set the public image of IAMH; acting as an ambassador; engaging with the media. Ensure effective marketing and communications and good internal communication. Engage and develop relationships with external stakeholders, including politicians, government officials, media representatives, funders and partners.
  13. Ensure overall health and safety management within the organisation, legal compliance, data protection (GDPR) and maintain insurances. Work at all times to promote Equal Opportunities.
  14. Maintain professional self-development to ensure adoption of best practice including Health and Safety and protection of vulnerable adults.
  15. Deal with disciplinary issues and grievances in liaison with the Board of Directors as necessary, and in accordance with organisation’s guidelines.
  16. Participate in industry-related events or associations that will enhance the Operations Manager’s leadership skills, the organisation’s reputation and potential for success.

Person Specification — Essential

Knowledge of current legislation / regulation relevant to services provided by the organisation.

Financial management: demonstrable management experience in handling operational budgets, fund-raising, grant management / application.

Business development: a strong commercial awareness, effective presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to identify and pursue viable opportunities. Ability to evaluate the organisation’s current performance and look for ways that it can improve while carefully building and maintaining long-term relationships with partners. Excellent negotiating skills.

People management: proven track record of successfully developing and maintaining a workforce to meet an organisation’s aims and objectives.

Proven performance in leadership skills, teamwork and team development.

Excellent advocacy and stakeholder relationship skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly at all levels.
