LOCAL Celtic supporters have made the biggest community donation of items ever given to Inverclyde Foodbank.

PGFB appealed for groceries to be handed in at St Francis’s Church in Port Glasgow over a weekend in December.

Generous residents gave a total of three tonnes of supplies which have now been transported to Inverclyde Foodbank. The group also donated £300.

Paul McKee of PGFB said: “We felt we needed to help our local community in the fight against poverty.

“I wanted to help people who were struggling in Inverclyde, help Inverclyde’s most vulnerable during one of the hardest years.

“Today we found out we broke the record for the biggest ever food collection in Inverclyde which was an amazing achievement.”

The foodbank team wrote thanking PGFB saying: “We can confirm that your donation is the biggest we’ve had on a single occasion from a community group.”

The weight of the items given added up to 3,053 kilogrammes.
