8 April, 2019 | Local

WOOL and craft supply shop The Wee Crafty Owl has opened its doors in Greenock town centre — and is already attracting a loyal following among local knitters and crafters.

The Wee Crafty Owl is based in spacious, welcoming premises at 2B Jamaica Street, near West Blackhall Street, and is run by Mairi Coventry.

The shop has a full range of wools, including a selection of higher quality 100 per cent British and Scottish wool.

Various other craft items are in stock including faux fur pom-poms for hats which are handcrafted in Scotland, craft kits and haberdashery.

The Wee Crafty Owl is already attracting favourable reviews from customers on Facebook with comments including:

— “Went down to visit this lovely shop on its opening day – gorgeous yarns and fab chat.”

— “Popped in for some wool and was spoilt for choice. Lovely variety and really friendly.”

— “I went down to The Wee Crafty Owl today to check out some yarn and their stuff is beautiful! Such a friendly, chilled out, relaxed shop, so happy to have this in town.”

As well as the shop space, there is a large workshop area, where crafters can hold classes, teaching skills such as crocheting and crafts.

A ‘Wee Crafty Social’ group starts on 10 April and will be on every Wednesday, 10 to 11.30am. It’s a group where crafters can bring their latest project and meet have a chat over a cuppa. There is a £1.50 charge (for refreshments).

Mairi said: “I have wanted to run a shop like this for years. This is a dream come true.  Crafting has been a passion of mine since childhood and I am so looking forward to helping other people get the most from these wonderful pastimes.

“I also hope to build up a programmes of craft classes so people can be introduced to these skills.

“I would like the shop to be a hub where people can pop in, have a cuppa and a chat “

The Wee Crafty Owl is open 9.30am to 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
