PORT Glasgow Golf Club’s Championship contest took place in very trying conditions.

There was a delay of two hours because of heavy overnight and morning rain.

Ryan Gallagher shot an incredible 70 scratch in the morning giving him a five-shot lead over several players.

Conditions improved slightly in the afternoon, but were still very difficult, although many players found scoring better.

Paul Vandermade played some great golf to score 72 scratch to set a 147 total. A number of players had a chance of winning, including 13-times champion Jim Docherty, but his par putt for him to tie with Paul on 147 on the 18th just slipped past.

This was Paul’s second Championship win.

1st – Paul Vandermade – 147.
2nd – Jim Docherty – 148.
3rd – Graeme Steel – 150.

MacAuslan Trophy

1st – Billy Logan – Nett 69.
2nd – Alex McArthur – Nett 70.
3rd – James McGeoghegan – Nett 70.

In the Handicap Championship, scoring was excellent with three men nett under par.

Jim Rennie was on 1 under 67, then Mark Crawford scored an incredible 5 under 63. For a long time it looked like Mark would win his first championship, until reigning champion Stephen Duddy scored the same, so it went to a count back.

With a back nine of 36, Stephen just pipped Mark, who had 37, to retain his title.

1st – Stephen Duddy – Nett 63 (Back 9 – 36).
2nd – Mark Crawford – Nett 63 (Back 9 – 37).
3rd – Jim Rennie – Nett 67.
