POLICE have confirmed that drugs with an estimated street value of £1.3million were recovered in a Greenock town centre drugs raid.

Officers searched the Old Tobacco Warehouse in Clarence Street on Thursday 5 June and found an extensive cannabis cultivation.

Five men aged 17, 23, 26, 38 and 50 were arrested and charged in connection with drug offences. They appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court last week.

Sergeant Gary Arthur said: “This is a significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the trade in illegal drugs in Scotland.

“It also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“We would continue to urge anyone with information or concerns about drugs and firearms activity in their area to contact Police Scotland on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
