PLANNERS Asked To Approve Large New Home In Kilmacolm

How the house is expected to look

A ‘HIGH quality, bespoke’ detached house is being proposed for the grounds of a property in Kilmacolm.

If approved, the four-bedroom home would be built at Knapps on Houston Road. It would feature a home cinema and gym.

A design statement submitted with the application explains: “The hill slope affords an architectural opportunity for the ground floor of the new house to be partly buried to create the illusion of single storey building when viewed from the north with corresponding reduction in the otherwise overall height of the building, when viewed from the south.

“This design solution ensures the new house will appear subordinate against the backdrop of the mature treed hillside and Knapps.

“Principal apartments have been arranged to afford views towards Knapps Loch below the overarching canopy of mature trees.”

Permission was granted in 2012 to remove trees and build a three-storey house with roof terrace within the garden of Knapps.

The new application is pending consideration by Inverclyde planners.
