Inverclyde Now Logo PLAN For Stables And House In Countryside Near Kilmacolm Is Refused

INVERCLYDE officials have rejected a proposal for a house and livery stables at Kilmacolm.

The development was proposed for land at Blacksholm Road, north Of Slates Farm, near Balrossie House.

There is already an agricultural shed at the site in relation to a flock of rare Zwartble sheep which was established in 2014 with four animals and is now 40-strong.

The flock’s owners said they needed to live at the site because the expanding flock requires daily attention.

An equestrian arena was created at the site in the last few years and the livery stables were to be run in conjunction with that.

But council planners disagreed and refused the application.

Their report stated: “It has not been demonstrated that a new dwelling is required at this location. The operational needs of the sheep business are not at a sufficient level that require a full-time presence in the form of a dwelling at this location.”

They added that no information on the viability of the equestrian business had been submitted.
