PHILHARMONIC Choir Holding First Concerts For Two Years

19 November, 2021 | Local, Noticeboard

GREENOCK Philharmonic Choir is to perform Christmas concerts, in Greenock and Largs.

The events will both take place on Saturday 11 December.

The Largs concert will be in Clark Memorial Church at 4pm, and the Greenock concert in Lyle Kirk, Union Street at 7.30pm.

The music will include Christmas favourites such as ‘O Holy Night’, ‘The First Nowell’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’.

There will also be carols for the audience to join in with.

The line-up of highly accomplished musicians will include conductor Andrew McTaggart, organist Andrew Forbes (Glasgow Cathedral) and soprano Caitlin Mackenzie.

The choir has not held a concert since December 2019 because of the covid pandemic.

President Calum Harbison said: “The last couple of years have been very challenging for amateur music groups, especially for choirs, but we are back with a renewed enthusiasm and some new members, and very much looking forward to singing in front of an audience again.

“We hope that people will be able to celebrate Christmas a bit more fully (but safely) this year, and this is the ideal way to get into the spirit.”

Tickets are priced £10 (under-18s free). Audience members will be required to wear masks, unless exempt. Tickets can be ordered through choir members, or alternatively by calling 07847 250529.
