GREENOCK parkrun welcomed 130 runners to the Esplanade on Saturday for the weekly five-kilometre time trial.

Nineteen of them were new to Greenock parkrun including seven who had never taken part in any parkrun event before.

Among the first-timers were Welsh visitors from the Royal Princess cruise ship which was docked at the nearby Greenock Ocean Terminal.

The warm and dry conditions were ideal for fast times with 28 runners achieving a personal best (PB). William Laing was rewarded for his regular interval training sessions over the summer months with a PB. On his 56th parkrun, William dipped under 23 minutes for the first time to record 22:56.

Douglas McEwan — who runs in the 70-74 age category –- achieved his second PB in as many weeks to drop under 27 minutes for the first time, recording 26:56.

Also celebrating personal best times were Wendy Russell, Helen Crawford, Stephen Brown, Shaun Melvin, Gordon Robertson, Ross Cuffe, Alan Russell, Richie Currie, Barry Speirs, Norman MacLean, Finlay Thomson, Melissa Wilson, Debbie Gorry, Gordon McIntyre, Brian Bradley, Elizabeth Rankin, Linda Ross, Jane Lyne, Leona Donnelly, Ailsa Russell, Isla Carroll, Julie Percival, Marie Queen, Lorna Russell, Muriel Russell and Jennifer Buchan.
