Inverclyde Now Logo SWIMMING — Success For Port Glasgow Otters At Clyde Valley Gala

SEVENTEEN members of Port Glasgow Otters swim team travelled to Wishaw Sports Centre to take part in the Clyde Valley Beavers Gala.

It was a tough but exciting competition with 15 teams participating in the 84 events. There was some outstanding swimming from the Port Glasgow Otters team with many personal bests (PBs) being broken.

Some of the Otters were diving and others were competing in new strokes for the first time. Many swimmers also moved up into harder and longer races in which they coped superbly.

After a fantastic day the team returned with a magnificent tally of 32 medals -– 11 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze.

Kyle Brotherton won two silver medals in the 75 individual medley (IM) and 50m freestyle (both class 3).

Lottie Barry won a gold in the 75 IM (class 3) and bronze in the 200m freestyle (open).

Isaac Dunning won three golds in the 100m IM, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle (all open).

Lee Morrison won a gold in the 25m breaststroke (class 5) and two bronze in the 25m backstroke (class 6) and 50m freestyle (class 2).

Mollie Rowles won two bronze in the 25m breaststroke (class 6) and 25m freestyle (class 5).

Andrea Gallacher won two silver in the 50m backstroke (class 4) and 50m freestyle (class 2) and a bronze in the 50m breaststroke (class 4).

Eve Cushnaghan won two silver in the 50m backstroke (class 3) and 25m breaststroke (class 5).

Chris Dillon won gold in the 50m freestyle (class 2) and silver in the 50m breaststroke (class 4).

Ross O’Donnell won two golds in the 50m backstroke (class 2) and 25m butterfly (class 3).

John Brotherton won gold in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m breaststroke (both class 2).

Aimee Hagan won silver in the 25m butterfly (class 3).

Stephen Coyle won gold in the 200m freestyle (open).

Katy Boyle won gold in the 50m breaststroke (class 2) and silver in the 200m freestyle (open).

Richard Browning won three bronze in the 100m backstroke and 400m freestyle (both open) and 50m butterfly (class 1).

Zak Gallacher won silver in the 25m freestyle (class 10).

Tommy McNair won bronze in the 25m freestyle (class 7).

Niamh McTaggart swam well but missed out on a medal in the 25m freestyle (class 7).
