Inverclyde Now Logo SWIMMING — Mum-And-Son First For Port Otters At Contest

NINETEEN members of Port Glasgow Otters swim team took part in the West of Scotland Regional Championships at Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

Fourteen clubs participated in 65 events. The team had a fantastic day and returned with a tally of 40 medals -– 26 gold, nine silver and five bronze.

It was a special day for the Otters as this was the first time the team had a mum and son swimming in the same competition.

Andrea Gallacher swam for the Otters many years ago and decided to return after her son Zak joined the club and started competing. She swam brilliantly, winning gold medals in all her three races, while Zac won gold in his race.

Colin McLean, Jordyn Fitzharris and Stephen Coyle swam really well, but missed out on medals this time.

Kyle Brotherton won five gold medals in the 75 individual medley, 50m backstroke, 25m butterfly (all class 4), 25m breaststroke (class 8) and 50m freestyle (class 3).

Richard Browning won two gold medals in the 50m butterfly (class 1) and 100m freestyle (open) and three silver medals in the 100 individual medley, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke (all class 1).

Isaac Dunning won four gold medals in the 100m individual medley, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke (all class 1) and 50m butterfly (class 2) and a silver medal in the 100m freestyle (open).

Lindi Steele won a bronze medal in the 25m freestyle (class 6). Emma Thompson won a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 7). Lee Morrison won two gold medals in the 25m breaststroke (class 6) and 50m freestyle (class 3) and a bronze medal in the 25m backstroke (class 6).

Eve Cushnaghan won two gold medals in the 50m backstroke (class 3) and 25m breaststroke (class 5) and a silver medal in the 100m freestyle (open). Chris Dillon won two bronze medals in the 50m backstroke (class 3) and 50m breaststroke (class 2).

Adam Parker won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle (class 2). Paula Carroll won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle (class 2) and a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke (class 2).

Aimee Hagan won three gold medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle (both class 1) and the 25m breaststroke (class 5). Katy Boyle won a gold medal in the 50m breaststroke (class 2) and two silver medals in the 50m backstroke (class 1) and 100m freestyle (open).

Zak Gallacher won a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 10). Niamh MacTaggart won a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 9). Tommy McNair won a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 7).
