Inverclyde Now Logo SWIMMING — Impressive Medal Tally For Port Glasgow Otters At Gala

EIGHTEEN members of Port Glasgow Otters swim team travelled to Wishaw Sports Centre to take part in the Clyde Valley Beavers Gala.

It was a challenging competition with 13 teams competing in 75 events. At the end of a fantastic day of swimming the team returned with a superb tally of 31 medals –- nine gold, 16 silver and six bronze.

It was an exciting day for the club as three of its young swimmers — Ruairidh Trainer, Robbie McNab and Michael McGurk — were competing for the first time.

Also, young family session helper Rosie McDougall went along to her first gala to assist at poolside.

Kyle Brotherton won a full set of medals — gold in the 75-metre individual medley (class 3), silver in the 50-metre freestyle (class 3) and bronze in the 50-metre backstroke (class 4).

Isaac Dunning also won a full set — gold in the 100-metre backstroke, silver in the 100-metre individual medley and bronze in the 100-metre freestyle (all open).

Zac Gallacher won gold in the 25-metre backstroke (class 9) and two silvers, in the 25-metre breaststroke (class 8) and 25-metre freestyle (class 7).

Emma Thompson won three silver medals, in the 25-metre backstroke and 25-metre breaststroke (both class 8) and 25-metre freestyle (class 7).

Courtney Clark won gold in the 25-metre freestyle (class 9) and silver in the 25-metre backstroke (class 8).

Lee Morrison won silver in the 25-metre butterfly (class 3) and bronze in the 50-metre freestyle (class 1).

Chris Dillon won gold in the 50-metre freestyle (class 2) and silver in the 50-metre backstroke (class 3).

Jordyn Fitzharris had three great swims but just missed out on a medal in the 50-metre backstroke (class 3) and 50-metre breaststroke (class 4).

Andrea Gallacher won silver in the 50-metre freestyle (class 2). Paula Carroll won silver in the 50-metre freestyle (class 2) and bronze in the 50-metre backstroke (class 3).

Adam Parker won gold in the 50-metre breaststroke (class 3) and bronze in the 50-metre freestyle (class 2).

Eve Cushnaghan won bronze in the 50-metre breaststroke (class 4).

Katy Boyle won gold in the 50-metre breaststroke (class 2).

Aimee Hagan won gold in the 100-metre freestyle (open) and silver in the 50-metre breaststroke (class 2).

Tommy McNair won gold in the 25-metre freestyle (class 8) and silver in the 25-metre breaststroke (class 10).

Ruairidh Trainer swam fantastic in this his first gala and won a silver medal in the 25-metre freestyle (class 8).

Robbie McNab was also impressive in his first gala and he too won a silver medal in the 25-metre freestyle (class 6).

Michael McGurk, again his first gala, had an excellent swim but just missed out on a medal this time, in the 25-metre freestyle (class 5).
