GREENOCK parkrun welcomed 111 people to the weekly five-kilometre Esplanade run, among them cardiac nurse Stewart Anderson who was completing his 150th parkrun.

Stewart, above, right, who dropped under 20 minutes for the first time this year, has done all his parkruns at Greenock.

Good weather conditions ensured that improvements were achieved by many, as 19 runners achieved personal best times.

Thirteen runners completed the Greenock event for the first time, taking in views of Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth cruise ship. Nine of the runners were taking part in their first ever parkrun.

First finisher was David Henderson who also celebrated a personal best (PB), his first in three years. David trimmed a precious eight seconds off to reach an impressive 16:04.

Anthony McGale achieved a PB on his second visit to Greenock to reach 19:24. Anthony is a regular parkrunner and has competed more than 100 runs in Glasgow and elsewhere, including Poland where he ran last Saturday.

Michael McLoone achieved his second PB in a row to go sub-20 at Greenock for the first time. David Holmes proved that every second counts when he earned a PB by the smallest of margins –- a single second. David set a PB of 23:06 and was grateful for the fast reaction times of this week’s timekeepers.

Junior runner Nula Ward, on her ninth parkrun, improved by a massive 2½ minutes, completing in 29:22, her fourth PB in as many runs. Fellow junior Liam Kane continues to improve with his second personal best in as many weeks. Liam achieved 24:01, an improvement of 11 seconds.

Also celebrating a PB was Peter Dawson from Durham, who is a regular visitor to Greenock. Peter has been raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s charities by running 200km. The Greenock team are delighted that he managed to complete his challenge on his visit to the Esplanade this weekend.

Other runners achieving a personal best this week were Debbie Magee, Callum Gorry, Alexander Diez Robertson, Ross Cuffe, Anthony Ward, Martin Ward, Sarah Williamson, Anna Robertson, Sophie Robertson, Debbie Gorry, Carol Crawford and Julie Percival,
