AFTER two stormy weekends, conditions were almost perfect at Greenock parkrun on ‘Leap Year Day’.

The weekly five-kilometre event on the Esplanade attracted 127 participants on Saturday who enjoyed crisp winter sunshine and a mild breeze.

Twelve runners achieved personal best (PB) times including first male home, Paul Monaghan who finished in 16:36, a time he has been close to on several occasions.

Other runners going faster were Graeme Morrison (ninth in 19:58), Paul McAuley (18th in 21:30), Sam McDowall (29th in 22:56), Colin McKnight (34th in 23:27), Calum Vost (36th in 23:35), Phil Fawcett (51st in 25:18), Jonathan Cathers (52nd in 25:24), Callum Robb (60th in 26:29), Paul Donnachie (77th in 28:02), Karen Muir (81st in 28:49), and Ben Duffy getting under the 30 minutes mark (86th in 29:26).

First female home was once again Kirsty Ormond, getting closer to the sub-20 time and only 21 seconds away from her PB, in 12th position, on 20:38.

There were quite a few runners hitting big milestones. David Holmes, John Carruthers, David Carruthers, Stevie Campbell and Paula McCabe all clocked up their 100th runs, while Jim Cuffe ran for the 150th time.
