FORMER Scottish international player Stephanie Norris is the new head coach and development officer for Ardgowan and Fort Matilda Tennis Clubs in Greenock.

Stephanie, who was head coach at Giffnock Tennis Club, has been appointed under the clubs’ four-year partnership and funding agreement with sportscotland and Tennis Scotland.

She said: “I’m delighted to take up this new role in my home town and I’m excited to get started and really help tennis grow in the area.”

Stephanie played at Strathgryffe tennis club for five years while at university studying for her degree in sports management. She then spent a year in Sydney, Australia where she was the head tennis coach and tennis manager at Mosman Tennis Club in north Sydney.

Returning to the UK, she took up the position of assistant tennis coach at Giffnock, and the following year became head tennis coach there where she has been for the past five years. Giffnock is one of Scotland’s foremost tennis clubs with some 900 members.

A player of some renown in Scottish terms, Stephanie has also regularly captained junior West of Scotland teams to events.

They issued a statement saying: “We feel very lucky to have secured Stephanie’s services, with her proven tennis skills and background and coaching abilities. “She will be a major asset in helping to achieve our goals of jointly growing tennis at the clubs while looking to increase participation in the sport across Inverclyde.”
