Inverclyde Now Logo GREENOCK Parkrunners Enjoy Run In The Sun

28 May, 2018 | Local

THE sunshine continued as Greenock parkrun welcomed 111 runners, joggers and walkers to its five-kilometre Esplanade course, a dozen first-timers among them.

The good conditions helped nine runners to improve their times and achieve a new personal best. Deborah McKenzie, who has completed 79 runs, managed to go under 24 minutes for the first time.

Charlotte McKay, pictured, who runs in the 60 to 64 age category, showed that her hard training is paying off by going under 29 minutes. Charlotte has completed 85 runs at Greenock and has made real strides since completing her first run in more than 40 minutes.

Junior runner Douglas Campbell did well to lower his time to 23:49. Also achieving personal bests were Ralph Hector (19:13), Debbie Magee (21:22), Christine Willshire (25:17), Sibylle Dow (27:20), David Caitens (30:13) and Helen Crawford (31:06).

Fiona Benham reached the 50-parkrun milestone. Fiona began her parkrun journey seven years ago at Pollok parkrun in Glasgow. She went on to complete 14 runs there, 22 runs at Glasgow’s Victoria event, two in Aberdeen and her 12 most recent runs in Greenock.
