Craig Sweeney of Kilts 4 Less, winner Joe Blyth and Whinhill Golf Club captain Paul Meechan

HOME player Joe Blyth won the Whinhill Open Trophy returning an excellent nett score of 62 to claim victory, edging out David Pearson courtesy of a better score on the last nine holes.

The contest attracted 134 golfers who faced tough scoring conditions because of blustery weather. The course was in great condition with the greens the best they have been all year helped by the rain in the week leading up to the competition.

Joe has finished runner-up in this competition on a number of occasions, so it was an overdue victory.

David adds a second place finish in the Gents’ Open to his victory in the Seniors’ Open held earlier in the season.

Third place was shared by David Hendry, Dan McAulay and Matt McCorkell who all returned nett scores of 63. Tommy McKeddie of Muirkirk Golf Club won the Best Visitor award with a nett score of 67.

Brian Cabrie claimed the Best Scratch prize thanks to a fine gross score of 72.

The competition, for the third year running, was sponsored by Kilts 4 Less.
