GOLF — Players Battle It Out In Whinhill Matchplay Finals
Matchplay final winners with Whinhill Golf Club captain Robert Bell
WHINHILL Golf Club finals for the seven matchplay competitions held throughout the 2019 season.
The day brought to a close the five single competitions and two doubles competitions that have been so well supported over the summer, with the majority of members taking part.
The prestigious Churm Trophy was won by Peter Folan, who defeated Brian Mallon by the score of 6&5. This was Peter’s second final of the day after his victory in the morning in the Anniversary Trophy against Chris McDiarmid by the score of 2&1.
Past Whinhill captain John Lawrence claimed victory in the Auld Yins Tassie event against Hugh Speirs in a closely-fought match that was decided on the last hole.
Michael Wright produced some fine golf to win the Hugh Graham Trophy on the 13th green against Paul Allan.
Brian Lindsay defeated Stephen Donald in the Peter Graham (Strokeplay) Trophy by the narrowest of margins –- Brian returned a 67 as opposed to Stephen’s 68.
This was Brian’s first final of the day with his second coming in the Boyd (Greensome) Trophy, with his brother Jason and himself running out victors against the father-and-son team of Colin Coventry and Paul Coventry with a win at the 2nd extra hole.
Craig Keir and John McGovern took the spoils in the McIntyre (Fourball) Trophy final by the score of 3&2 against another father-and-son team in the form of Thomas Francis and Thomas Francis Jnr.
Whinhill Golf Club thank Alan Hendry and Chris McDiarmid for their tremendous efforts during finals day and over the course of the season in the organisation of the matchplay competitions.
