GOLF — Matchplay Finals At Whinhill
WHINHILL Golf Club held the finals for the seven matchplay competitions held throughout the 2018 season.
The day brought to a close the five single and two doubles competitions that have been so well supported over the summer with the vast majority of members taking part.
The prestigious Churm Trophy was won by Nicky Donnelly, who defeated Joe McArthur by the score of 2&1.
Whinhill captain Paul Meechan claimed victory in the Auld Yins Tassie event against Callum Doull in a closely-fought match that was decided on the last hole.
Peter Daly produced some fine golf to win the Anniversary Trophy on the 15th green against Craig Wylie who achieved the great feat of reaching two matchplay finals.
Hugh Mallon defeated Hugh Speirs by one hole to win the Hugh Graham Trophy in a battle between two good friends.
Chris McDiarmid defeated Craig Wylie in the Peter Graham (Strokeplay) Trophy by the narrowest of margins -– the better inward half — after both had returned identical nett scores.
The team of Gerry Bagstad and Jim Cassidy won the Boyd (Greensome) Trophy competition with victory over the father and son team of Duncan Robb and Callum Robb, while the team of John Donald and Michael Wright claimed victory in the McIntyre (Fourball) Trophy competition with a win over the Ellis brothers –- David and John.
All finals were played in a very sporting manner. Whinhill Golf Club thank Alan Hendry and Chris McDiarmid for their tremendous efforts during finals day and over the course of the season in the organisation of the matchplay competitions.
