Inverclyde Now Logo GOLF — Juniors And Adults Team Up For Whinhill’s Eric Blaikie Contest

9 August, 2018 | Local

WHINHILL Golf Club’s 2018 Eric Blaikie Trophy was won by the team of junior member Darren Church and gent member Robert Bell after they returned an excellent nett score of 58.5.

The competition involved gent and junior members, competing as pairs in a greensome format. Competitors were blessed with a course in great condition, on a lovely day for golf with no rain and hardly any wind to speak of.

This victory for Darren will help make up for the disappointment he experienced last year when he was narrowly edged out in this competition on a countback. It is also very much deserved and fitting for Robert as he, along with his good friend John McGovern, put a lot of time and effort into the club’s Junior Section when they were the junior convenors in the 1990s.

In second place was the team of the ever improving Liam Moodie and Derek Church, Darren’s dad, with a great nett score of 59.5 while the team of David Carpentier and Craig Keir took third place with a fine nett score of 63.5.

Fourth place was shared by the teams of Cameron Gavin, playing in his first 18-hole competition, and Lee Sinnamon, and Aidan Robertson, one of last year’s winners, and John McGovern Jnr with their returns of 66.5.

The standard of golf on show throughout the day was of a very high quality, with many pairings returning scores under par.
