GOUROCK Golf Club recently held its annual Guintoli Junior Open.

The competition dates back to the mid-1970s and over the years has been enhanced by the donation of the Leith and Aitken trophies by club stalwart John Leith and his family.

This year a further innovation was the introduction of a nine-hole tournament for younger players.

A field of 18 juniors, including three boys from visiting clubs, took part, equally split between the full 18-hole event and the nine-hole Stableford event for the younger players.

The winner of the scratch prize was Lyall Jack with a gross score of 82. Lyall posted an even split of 41 in each 9.

Ryan Watson from Old Ranfurly took the nett prize with an impressive 86 less 18 for a nett 68. Ryan set a blistering pace with a front nine-hole score of 41 and, despite dropping a few more shots on the back nine, he held it together to take top prize.

In the younger age group, Adam Macnaughton took the first nett prize with a score of 71 whilst Euan Watters romped home with a brilliant 24 points in the nine-hole Stableford event including two highly impressive ‘four-pointers’ at the third and sixth holes.

Gourock Golf Club members made sure that numerous novelty prizes were up for grabs by sponsoring each of the 18 holes and huge thanks are due to Amazon Gourock for their sponsorship. There was a great atmosphere in the clubhouse in the late afternoon when the presentation of prizes took place.
