INVERCLYDE Sports Personality Awards organisers have given funding to local curler Fraser Clark.

Fraser’s £300 grant will help pay for equipment and the use of practice ice.

Fraser (23) is a member of the elite Team Woolston, which is the squad that represented England and finished ninth at the European curling B-division.

The team won the 2018 Aberdeen City Open and came second in the 2019 English Curling Championships, losing by one shot in the final for the second year. The team also won Preston curling club’s premier open bonspiel in 2017 and 2018, and they were quarter finalists in the 2018 Dumfries Open.

Fraser hopes the team will win the 2020 English Curling Championships and that he will represent England at the 2020 European Curling Championships.

He said: “I am delighted to receive this valuable grant award for curling equipment and practice ice time and it will be of great help in my ambition to represent my country on the world stage.”

The organisers welcome new applications for the grants which are available to individuals 10 years and older, residing in Inverclyde, though they may be members of clubs and sports associations outwith the local area.

The chosen sport needs to have a governing body recognised by sportscotland or similar in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Grant applications can be downloaded at www.inverclydesportspersonality.com and are available from local sports clubs or by email from ispagreenock@gmail.com.
