Inverclyde Now Logo FOOTBALL — Update From Port Glasgow Boys’ Club

26 March, 2019 | Local

2008s — The boys were in action on Saturday in Renfrew with a league fixture against Giffnock (Munich). With a couple of players missing and some carrying injuries, it was a squad effort to put in a good performance before the April holidays.

Kieran was given sole responsibility up front, with Sam injured, and he stole the show with a man-of-the-match performance and three goals. Oliver was back to his commanding self putting blocks in at the back and creating opportunities further up the field for Logan, Cameron and Kieran.

An excellent first half saw the team a few goals up and the boys continued to work hard on possession and shape in the second half. This resulted in further goals for Cameron and a fine left-foot finish from Alex McNicol to complete the scoring and the win.

The boys travelled to Bearsden to take on Westerton in the league and returned with a well-earned point. The surface wasn’t the best but credit to both teams for their effort and endeavour on the difficult pitch. The Port took the lead when Baxter stepped up and placed his free kick round the wall and into the back of the net.

Westerton leveled right on half-time when the Port defender misplaced a clearance across the box and the Westerton forward fired home high into the net.

The second half saw the ball go from end to end and it was Westerton who took the lead when a Port defender was robbed of the ball and the forward fired home. The boys pushed hard for an equaliser and, after several near misses, it took until two minutes before Crawley capitalised on a poor clearance to fire home. Despite both teams going for it in injury time the match ended all square. Scorers: Baxter and Crawley
