Inverclyde Now Logo FOOTBALL — Update From Port Glasgow Boys’ Club

13 June, 2017 | Sport

2010s (Black) — After five months, a long-awaited goal for wee Olly got the boys off the mark. Olly then found the net twice more. The boys faced difficult opponents but there were really good individual performances from each of the boys.

2008s  — The team has had a busy few weeks including games against Drumchapel and Pollok, and taking part in Ardgowan’s Fun Football Festival.

Against Drumchapel, the team came up against by far their sternest opposition so far and a quick start from the Drumchapel team saw them establish a four-goal lead. The Port boys showed great character in the second half and established themselves in the game. Leo, Kieran and Sam led the attack and pushed the team forward, scoring two goals and nearly getting the draw.

Against Pollok, the team was eager to go and Michael led the line on his ninth birthday. Kieran and Logan were superb in the early stages; their strong running and footwork leading to a few goals. Logan added to his tally with a beautiful strike direct from a corner. Oliver, Zac, Max and Louis were fantastic at the back winning every 50/50 tackle and protecting Euan in goal. Euan was a busy keeper in the second half and made some amazing saves, being on his toes and quick off his line.

On Saturday the team took part in Ardgowan’s festival with games against East End, Port Juniors and Ardgowan. The grass pitch proved hard for all the boys to play on but they did well and overall had a brilliant day, losing only one game out of four.

The 2008s thank the coaches at Ardgowan for organising this great festival.
