Blackthorn Rovers 7-0 Clyde

HAVING beaten Lithgows in the first Ridgedoc Cup group game, Thorn took on Clyde in the second group match in horrendous conditions at the Battery Park.

Blackthorn started quickly and found themselves a goal up within 10 minutes through Brad Smith. Moments later, assistant manager Steven Mullen came close as his long-range, looping header beat the keeper but rebounded off the post.

Clyde began to settle and enjoyed a good spell of pressure, but an outstanding 30-yard strike from James Jordan extended the lead midway through the half. Wide man Pete Fry then curled home his first of the season before the break.

With a three-goal lead going into the second half, Thorn were full of confidence and a couple of quick-fire goals from Jordan and Harkin put the game beyond doubt. James Jordan completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot before captain James Hunter got himself on the score-sheet to round off the scoring.

The win leaves Thorn needing a draw or better against Newark in the final group match to win the group and progress to the final.

Thorn Line-up: Koekenbier; McNeil, Harkin (McCurdy), Wiggins, Brunton; McDermid, Jordan, Fry (McGraw), Hunter; Smith, Mullen.

This Sunday, Blackthorn have a scheduled free week but a friendly is likely. Players and supporters should check the club Facebook page for details.
