Port Glasgow Boys’ Club 2004s (Black) v Erskine

THE boys travelled to Renfrew to take on tier one side Erskine in the cup and can count themselves unlucky not to take the game to penalties.

The first half saw Erskine take control with the Port struggling to get going and giving the ball away on numerous occasions. Erskine’s best chance came when their forward got clear in the box but McDougall saved well in the Port goal. They also had a number of free kicks around the Port box but were unable to hit the target.

The second half saw Erskine take the lead and they quickly added a second, which was thoroughly deserved. However this seemed to wake the Port up and the boys began to play to their strengths.

The Port pulled a goal back when O’Brien and McAteer linked well down the right before O’Brien crossed for Crawley to head home. They continued to press Erskine and got their rewards when Smith clipped the ball to the back post for Dillon to head into the net.

Darroch was then played through, he beat the Erskine ‘keeper to the ball and was taken out as the ball trundled towards the goal but the referee waved play on and Erskine cleared. The game was flowing end-to-end now and it was Erskine who re-took the lead when they burst clear and fired home.

Credit to the Port though as they continued to fight on and managed to create a chance in the last minute when Darroch again beat the keeper to the ball but was crowded out as he tried to fire home.

Scorers: Crawley and Dillon
