2004s Port Glasgow Boys’ Club (Black) 6 v Giffnock North Thistle 1

PORT Boys 2004s (Black) entertained Giffnock North Thistle who have become a bit of bogey team to the Port who had failed to defeat them in any match in the last two seasons.

The play was frantic at the start with both teams struggling to get any rhythm going early in the game but eventually the Port took the lead when Devenney fired home at the back post, with the aid of a slight deflection, following a corner.

This settled the Port down and Smith added a second when he raced clear down the right following good play and fired home low across the keeper. It was soon 3-0 when Temporal slotted home his first goal for the team when he found himself in space after some good, quick build-up play.

The Port lost a goal just before half-time when a free kick was only partially cleared; no Port player reacted to the second ball and the Giffnock forward fired home from just inside the box.

Giffnock started well in the second half but McLaughlin, Devenney and Clark at the back stayed strong and it was the Port who added a fourth when Creen hit a fantastic strike from 25 yards which hit bar/post and Smith followed in to fire high into the net. The Port then added a fifth when keeper McDougall’s punt found Darroch clean through and he finished it well.

However Giffnock kept plugging away and only a timely intervention by Baxter on the right stopped Giffnock getting in to pull one back. The Port added their sixth, and Smith’s third, when he was set free to finish low past the keeper.

Port introduced MacDonald, Crawley, McPhee, Harkins and Leslie and continued to press on, with McAteer and Madden seeing a lot more of the ball in the middle and creating chances which the Port could not convert.

Giffnock rallied towards the end and it took two great saves from McDougall to deny Giffnock adding to their single goal and the game ended with a 6-1 win for the Port.

Scorers — Smith (3), Devenney, Temporal and Darroch
